Local Swingers is one of the more popular pay sites. They do offer a limited free membership and one of the things I really like is that they make it completely clear on the homepage what is and isn't included in the free membership.
Regular readers will know that I'm not actually against charging for swingers site but I get very angry when people claim that a pay site is free and attempt to mislead people. Local Swingers are completely upfront which is great. I wish more sites would follow their lead.
As for the actual site itself, one of the strong points is that they take everyone's postcode so you can actually find people who are very close to you. There is also a reasonably large membership and most of the features you'd expect from a swingers site. I like the Swing Date feature for finding a fast meet.
Overall, I think this is a pretty good site.

Swinging Heaven Magazine
Regular readers of this blog will know that I'm not a fan of Swinging Heaven so I sat down to read the new Swinging Heaven Magazine with very low expectations.
However, I was pleasantly surprised. It's a really good magazine about sex, very well written and with high production values. It reminded me of Desire Magazine. It's not in any way a porn magazine, it's actually a very sex positive, women-friendly, guide to sex in the UK.
Thankfully there is almost nothing about the Swinging Heaven website, the only major mention is a few pages of adverts where they've printed some ads from the site (but minus the photos). I can't really see much point in this.
The other major omission is of course any discussion about what's happening online; and nowadays there are such a huge number of websites and online resources. I guess that they're unable to mention any of them due to the Swinging Heaven link which is a pity.
Overall though it's a great read and I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Dirty David Site Review
Dirty David started out as a free site, then introduced charges and began to lose members to the free sites such as Fab Swingers.
The full story is a little bit more complicated. The site began in 7 years ago and was completely David's site. It did really well and became the number 1 swingers site in the UK.
However he then did a deal with The Adulthub in 2003 (who are actually not that bad) but it meant that he lost the guts of his website. All of the content on his site has shifted over to the Adulthub which just leaves a small number of marketing pages on his site.
Combined with removing most of the content of the site he also seems to have indulged in some activity against Google's Webmaster Guidelines which is why the site has suffered a big page rank penalty which will explain why the traffic has gone down so dramatically according to Alexa.
The headline of the site is still Welcome to Dirty-David, free adult swingers contacts. despite the fact that there is a fee to gain full access to the site. However, unlike many pay sites, he does make it clear that you need premium membership to do everything on the site so overall it's not anything like as bad as certain other sites!

The answer is that the founder of Swinging Heaven, Mark, sold out to Symbios Solutions Ltd, a ring tone company, who bought the site in November 2005. According to their website they have "an aggressive web real estate programme" which I guess translates to "charge as much as possible on Swinging Heaven". This has resulted in more than half the users leaving the site since the takeover.
The founder of Swinging Heaven along with some of the users who'd been driven away from the site by Symbios then decided to create a new free site called Swingers Cave. When Symbios found out they took legal action to close it down (I'm told by my source).
So if you want to become part of a "competitive product portfolio" I would suggest you join the most expensive "free" swingers site in the UK!

A moving and sexy website
I've decided to go slightly off-topic to tell you about a very special site I came across today. It's not often that a website can be described as "moving" and "sexy" but I think that's best description of VixPix - subtitled "Tits Out For Multiple Sclerosis".
The site has some pics of Vix and links to a MS resource centre if you'd like to donate. There's a very honest and moving account of her illness - Vix herself suffers from MS. I notice that the site hasn't been updated for a while so I do hope that she's okay.
There was article in The Sun about the site which quotes the manager of the MS centre saying "It's important to remember that what Vix has done is far more than just a fundraising exercise. She also challenges people’s preconceived beliefs about MS sufferers".

Problems at Fab Swingers
Fab Swingers has some problems last week, there was basically a huge amount of new people going to the site with traffic doubling over two weeks! Unfortunately the server that the site was on didn't really cope and at peak times the site was unusably slow. The site has now been shifted over to a much more powerful server and it working fine now.
The new server was quite expensive but the site is still completely free. The advertisers pay more when there is more traffic so the sudden rush in new users has generated more cash which has covered the cost of the new server.

Department for Education and Skills includes swinging in the curriculum
It's good to see that the UK government's Department for Education and Skills is broadening the curriculum, as this page about swinging from their website shows!
I've included a screenshot below for when they take it down.
I guess this has been put up by someone spamming the forums for the sake of getting a link from a .gov.uk website which will carry a lot of pagerank benefit - unless the government really has become a lot more liberal!

Swinging Heaven
Swinging Heaven is still the most popular UK-only swingers website although its traffic has fallen by more half over the past year because they made the switch from being a free to site to a site with quite an expensive subscription. If you were lucky enough to have an account with them before they made the switch then you can use the site for free but all new users have to pay.
I'm not very sure why they made the change, normally this sort of thing happens after the site is bought by a company that has no idea how swingers sites work or maybe the owners just decided they wanted to make some cash. Either way the loss of Swinging Heaven is quite sad and I'm sure it will lose its number one position in 2007.

Welcome!
This blog is just going to be my thoughts on the UK swingers scene, hopefully some of you will find it helpful and - who knows? - maybe even get a shag out of it!
I'm fearlessly expose some of the awful rip-offs out there, the websites that claim to be free but actually require payment before you can do anything, some of the clubs which don't believe in basic hygeine and anything else that happens to annoy me.
One of my first experiences of swinging was being invited to a party when I was 21 or 22. I turned up and the youngest person there apart from me was late 40's with most people in their 50's I guess. I felt like I'd stumbled into a Saga swingers party! It was absolutely hideous.
And yet... Swinging does sometimes go so wonderfully right. I've fucked some women beautiful enough to have been models, other women not so classically beautiful but deliciously kinky and intelligent which in many ways is even better. I've partied with some incredible groups of people!
So I guess I'd like to relive some of these moments and perhaps see if I can help my readers have great experiences from exploring their sexuality.
